The work
I led media relations for Pacific Vision Eye Institute, whose physicians wanted to be known as expert voices. Early in the pandemic there was almost no research on whether the virus could spread through the eyes. I checked the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s updates daily, and when a study on transmission through eye secretions appeared, I sent it to the institute’s doctors. Dr. Lee came back with four practical tips.
Reporters kept returning to him for advice on travelling safely and voting in person, and Al Jazeera asked him to write a byline. I built similar profiles for three colleagues: dry eye specialist Dr. Katsikos, generalist Dr. Liu and LASIK specialist Dr. Bansal.
